Pearls from the Bible 32

God has every comfort in heaven, but He looked down at us and came to rescue us. His birth is all about choosing the lowly and small things in the world, taking part in people's suffering, and in the midst, sharing hope and the good news. Matthew 2:6 says, 'Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are in no means the least of the leading cities of Judah; for from you will come a leader who will guide my people Israel.' God chose the city that was considered the least. Also, He chose to be born in a manger; He sent His angels to shepherds. God and His ways are marvelous. God never lost anything by choosing to live in a poor place, a small city, and with poor parents. He goes in search of anything that is considered the least and lifts it.

May God help us make choices like Him. May we not be satisfied by enjoying the companionship of a rich community. Let us reach out to the poor and act as God acted. We are in a situation where our city has despair, confusion, and hopelessness. Hey friend, you are the child of God, the God who chose to commit Himself to suffer with the poor. Carry the good news to comfort the worn-out and the needy. Go out as the angel went out in search of people to give them hope and the good news.

Dear God, help us to live a life where we accommodate every poor person, the lowly, and the least. May our hearts go after them as Yours did. Make us a living embodiment of Your good news. May we become like Your son Jesus. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
